There is only a week left until the first race in the hard enduro season “Gucevo Challenger”, which is traditionally held in April in Banja Koviljača.
On Saturday, April 9, the prologue will take place in the center of Banja Koviljača, which will end with a prologue race in which the best four drivers from each class will enter. Immediately after that, we start the first day of the race. The planned route on the first day is about 40 km and the average driving time is from 1-1.5 hours depending on weather conditions.
On Sunday, April 10, there is a slightly more demanding route than on the first day, about 70 km long, with an average completion time of 2-3 hours.
We talked a bit with the organizer of the upcoming event.
Hi Zoki. I guess the preparations for the Gucevo Challenger are coming to an end?
Hello, the preparations for this year’s Gucevo Challenger have come to an end.
What have you prepared for us for this year, are there any surprises at the prologue or in the woods?
As every year, the prologue will be interesting and attractive for both the participants and the audience. In the woods, some of the already famous sections such as sikirica, toboggan, kam and others have undergone minor changes, so I think they will be especially demanding for drivers, we have also added new sections that are a surprise for this year so drivers will not miss excitement or effort.
We know that when the route is dry, the Gucevo Challenger is quite a “fast” race, and when it rains, the route becomes perhaps one of the most difficult.
If the forecasts are to be believed, precipitation is possible next weekend, so it seems that the drivers are expected to fight in real hard enduro conditions.
Gucevo Challenger has an increasing number of competitors every year, and this year the drivers come from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Serbia.
Due to the specifics of our terrain, as every year we have prepared two routes, one for rain and one for dry race, weather conditions on the day of the race will decide which route to drive, in case of rain race drivers can expect a real experience of hard enduro driving and which is what Gucevo Challenger is known for, while in the case of a dry race, the route will be easier to overcome but longer.
Of course, our goal is for as many drivers as possible to finish the race, and with that we are increasing the number of competitors from year to year.
Zoki, what would you say to drivers who come to Gucevo for the first time, but also to those who may be hesitant?
We are telling the drivers who are coming for the first time and those who are hesitant that a good ride, socializing, fair play and of course a lot of adrenaline is guaranteed and we invite them all to increase our race with their participation and we will welcome them with open arms and prepare them various surprises..
Thanks Zoki, see you in 7 days!
